Dedicated my life to public service. Throughout my professional career, I have worked to make this world a better place.  I have worked as a community organizer on behalf of residents trying to improve their housing and reduce crime in their neighborhood.  I have worked to improve the lives of homeless individuals and families – fostering collaborations between government, non-profits and the business community to reform our public systems that provide funding and services so that we can reduce costs while creating more dignified and humane ways of addressing homelessness.  In the mid-1990’s, I also lived in Russia for four years, working with Russian democratic leaders as they broke off the chains of communism and created new systems for democratic voting and freedom of speech.

Bring an understanding of public policy, and have particular expertise in housing and community development. As a staff member working in the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C., I developed and wrote legislation on Federal housing and community development law.  I understand how to effectively navigate our bureaucracies in order to get government to work better, on behalf of all people.  I earned a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Georgetown University, with a special emphasis in statistics and economic analysis.

Problem solver and committed to collaborative leadership.   I firmly DSCN2589believe that decision-making and leadership mean that people are involved in the decisions that impact their lives.  St. Louis Park has a tradition of involving residents in planning processes, such as Vision St. Louis Park, and the residents-driven planning on Excelsior & Grand  and the new Ellipse development (Al’s Bar site).   To me, leadership means bringing people together to work collaboratively on finding the right solutions for our community.

Dedicated to living green and healthy for myself, my family and my community.  As an avid runner and bicyclist, I understand how important parks, trails and pedestrian-friendly streets are to a safe and healthy community.  I have completed two marathons, and three triathlons, including one this July.   I am often rollerblading with my dog Macy through the neighborhood, with kids shouting at me as I go by, “Hello Roller Lady!”

Committed to making St. Louis Park a great place to call home.  I have volunteered for the St. Louis Park schools as a Site Council representative soccer team pixand room parent, served as soccer coach and mentor for young girls in St. Louis Park, served as an appointed Commissioner for the St. Louis Park Housing Authority, and more recently sit on the Board of the St. Louis Park Community Foundation.  I have dedicated endless hours of time to activities that improve our community.

Live in the Minikahda Vista neighborhood with my husband Tom, my children Henry and Mariel, a dog and two cats. My children both attend St. Louis Park’s award-winning public schools – Henry will be starting at the high school this fall, and Mariel is entering 6th grade in September.   I am married to Tom Fulton, and our household also includes two demanding cats and one perpetually happy dog.
